VCenter Installation

vCenter Server is a service that acts as a central Management administration point for ESXi hosts and their virtual machines, connected on a network: we can Manage Up to 1,000 hosts per vCenter Server instance and Up to 10,000 powered-on virtual machines and 15000 registered virtual machines per vCenter Server instance.

Hardware requirements (physical or virtual machine):

-Number of CPUs – Two 64-bit CPUs or one 64-bit dual-core processor

-Processor – 2.0 GHz or higher Intel or AMD processor*

-Memory – 4GB RAM minimum*

-Disk storage – 4GB minimum*

- Networking – Gigabit connection recommended

-* Higher if the database runs on the same machine

Software requirements:

-64-bit operating system is required.

-See “vSphere Compatibility Matrixes.”

Operating  System Requirements :

Note: vCenter Server 5.0 requires a 64-bit operating system and cannot be installed on a 32-bit operating system. When performing an install you must ensure that your operating system is 64-bit capable.

These operating systems are supported:

Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Standard, Enterprise or Datacenter SP2 64bit

Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Standard, Enterprise or Datacenter R2 64bit

Microsoft Windows Server 2008 Standard, Enterprise or Datacenter SP2 64bit

Microsoft Windows Server 2008 Standard, Enterprise or Datacenter R2 SP1 64bit

Microsoft Windows Server 2008 Standard, Enterprise or Datacenter R2 64bit

Microsoft Windows Server 2008 Standard, Enterprise or Datacenter SP1 64bit

Microsoft Windows Server 2008 Standard, Enterprise or Datacenter SP2 64bit.

Databases are supported by vCenter server:

IBM DB2 9.5

IBM DB2 9.7

SQL Server 2005 64-bit Standard, Enterprise SP4

SQL Server 2008 64-bit Express R2

SQL Server 2008 64-bit Standard, Enterprise R2

SQL Server 2008 64-bit Standard, Enterprise SP2

Oracle 10g 64-bit Standard, Enterprise.

Oracle 11g 64-bit Standard, Enterprise.

Note: vCenter Server Support Only windows Operating System.

Installation and Configuration of VMware VirtualCenter Server 5.1

Insert the VMware vCenter Server installer CD/DVD, Select vCenter Server and Click on Install

Select vSphere client and click on Install.
