Advanced concepts features of Appian World 2016.

The Appian Business Process Management Suite (BPMS) is built using a multi-tier web application model. The client tier includes an entirely web browser-based interface, allowing for easy deployment of the application and portability to a wide array of client machine configurations. The middle tier consists of one or more Java Platform Enterprise Edition (JEE) compliant application servers that manage the application control and interface with the back-end engines that manage the data specific to the Appian Suite.

Learning objectives: In this module, the application itself is an design object, which performs functionally on it. To make this application reports, available users must configure security for the designed objects. design objects may be zero, one or many applications.

Topics:  BPM tools-Business processing tools, Business processing modules and business processing design.

Practicals to be covered: Appian data terminology, create and use a variety of query rules, creating an data store.

Learning Objectives: Appian is an entirely web-based application, unique in the business process management (BPM) industry.

Topics include: Users interact with the entire BPMS—including the portal, document management, analytics, Process Modeler, and task completion interfaces—through a web browser. Throughout the suite, extensive use of third generation AJAX (Asynchronous JavaScript and XML [Extensible Markup Language]) is used. This enables the application to provide rich, application-like interfaces without the use of plug-ins or ActiveX controls.

Practicals to be covered: In addition to web interfaces, users can also interact with Appian through other interfaces, including e-mail, for viewing reports and completing tasks. All client communication occurs through standard HTTPS (HyperText Transport Protocol Secure) protocols to the middle tier.

appian-bpm-training

Learning Objectives: The middle tier in Appian consists of the control logic that drives the interaction with the client and accesses the information and logic stored in our back-end Appian engines.

Topics include: The middle tier is also responsible for integrating with other applications, external relational databases, and web services. The primary component of the middle tier is one or more Java application servers. In a typical production environment, the middle tier also consists of one or more web servers that handle requests from the client, manage static content, and forward dynamic requests to the application server(s). In addition, multiple web servers and application servers are recommended for load balancing and failover, to ensure high availability of the application. These application and web servers can further be split out across multiple physical machines for redundancy and load balancing. In a typical configuration, all client requests would be routed to a single traffic manager that routes requests to each of the running web servers. The web servers then provide static content (i.e., simple HTML [HyperText Markup Language] files and images) and pass all dynamic requests (i.e., a list of my tasks, documents, etc.) directly to the Java application server(s). The application server is responsible for requesting information from, and storing information in, the Appian engines (see below for more information on the Appian engines). A connection layer is used within the application server to connect to the Appian engines. This connection layer is a library that allows Java applications to connect transparently to the Engines. This layer manages the pool of connection and routes requests to the appropriate engine, to ensure high availability of the back end, in a similar fashion to JDBC (Java Database Connectivity).

Practical to be covered: All integration with third-party applications, such as web services, relational databases, and enterprise applications, is handled through the application servers. Typically, this is handled through Smart Nodes that execute within the Java application servers.

Learning Objectives: Appian is a comprehensive BPMS, consisting of advanced process, knowledge management, and integrated analytics. The BPMS has been designed from the ground up to be highly scalable and responsive. To achieve this, it uses a unique back-end architecture to manage data and perform real-time data analysis.

Topics include: The architecture consists of a set of Appian engines that manage tasks from storing and versioning process models; executing predefined business rules; user, group, and role management; document storage; discussion areas; and task execution.

Practicals to be coverd: In practical we will learn about, the engines can be separated onto different physical machines and replicated, typical for load balancing and fail-over arrangements in most relational databases. Each engine is responsible for providing a specific service within the overall application Suite.

Learning Objectives: Appian is the first product to marry the concepts of Service Oriented Architecture with business user control and design of application logic and business process flow. The most common representation of a SOA object in the market is a Web Service.

Topics include: Web Services are powerful and flexible ways to allow any application to quickly reuse programmatic logic through a simple web interface. But, a Web Service is still a complex programmatic API with WSDL definitions, data mappings, and compensations that only more advanced IT users know how to properly deploy. Appian introduces a new way of wrapping common SOA objects, such as Web Services and Enterprise Java Beans (EJBs), into more easily understood Appian Smart Services. The Appian Smart Service is designed to encapsulate the complex logic, WSDL mappings, compensations, and even GUI form interface into a simple, reusable service object that can be understood and deployed by more common business users. This packaging of complex SOA API calls into Appian Smart Services provides the perfect balance between IT control over complex integrations and API interactions and business user control over process and business logic.

Practical to be covered: In addition, we will learn about, how Appian provides the infrastructure for an organization to start building a library of service objects for rapid orchestration and management in processes and applications. To accelerate an organization’s construction of this service library, Appian comes pre-populated with over 85 process actions and over 250 rule expression actions to control all aspects of actions and quickly create business rules. Furthermore, Appian includes a Java Eclipse design environment for IT developers to quickly create and extend the library of Appian Smart Services.
